GetMyFirstJob helps young people in the UK to kickstart their careers with apprenticeships

GetMyFirstJobWhereas many people, while growing up, aim to attend some sort of institute of higher learning and then jump into a career, but sometimes there are a few steps in-between. In the United Kingdom, GetMyFirstJob has found success with a platform that offers access to apprenticeships and traineeships in a variety of fields.

Taking a look at their platform, I found that users can find apprenticeships or traineeships by entering your post-code, distance (up to 30 miles or just over 48km), targeted field of work, qualification level, college or provider, and a company, if necessary. There are listings for numerous fields, ranging from construction, to media outlets, to dental offices, and animal care, and more. And, what is helpful here is that they do not simply leave interested trainees to figure out if an apprenticeship would be right for them, but provide guides on what an apprenticeship or traineeship would entail, in terms of wages, the types of qualifications that be obtained, and so forth.

At the moment, GetMyFirstJob tells me that they have a candidate pool of more than 250,000 young people and receive more than 20,000 applications each month. They also claim an average of about 6,000 current vacancies per month.

In terms of funding, the startup first turned to Nesta Impact Investments, a fund with a particular eye towards backing businesses that will make a social impact in the United Kingdom. And then, the startup later followed that up with a round that again included Nesta, but this time also involved City & Guilds Group. All told, the startup has pulled 1.5 million pounds, with the latest round concluded a few weeks ago.

A representative for the company told me that they generate revenue by “making services available” to apprenticeship-providers and small and large companies.
