Foodpanda and Delivery Hero swap local businesses through acquisitions in India and South America

deliveryhero-foodpandaEurope’s two biggest food delivery networks, Rocket Internet-backed foodpanda and Delivery Hero, have acquired companies from each other in India, Mexico and South America.

According to the comprehensive deal between two Berlin-based marketplaces, foodpanda is acquiring Delivery Hero’s TastyKhana in India and Mexican businesses of PedidosYa, SeMeAntoja and Superantojo. In exchange, Delivery Hero is getting Rocket’s hellofood businesses in Argentina, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Peru.

The acquisitions will make foodpanda the leading delivery service in India and Mexico, and strengthen Delivery Hero’s position as a market leader in Latin America. The companies say the deal aims to optimize their international growth strategies.

TastyKhana, which has been one of the pioneering food delivery portals in India, will continue operating as an independent brand. The acquisition will expand foodpanda’s direct or indirect network to over 10,000 restaurants in 173 cities of India. Mexican food delivery businesses PedidosYa, SeMeAntoja and Superantojo will grow German company’s operations in the country to include 2,500 restaurants in 10 cities.

Delivery Hero’s acquisitions from hellofood, on the other hand, cement the former’s leadership position in South America, covering 17,500 restaurants across eleven countries including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Uruguay and Venezuela.
