Israeli Vidmind, a white-label, OTT cloud-TV platform, announces that they have obtained $30 million in financing from Russian retailer Trellas and that they are partnering with them to launch TVzor, a streaming video service available through a set-top box.
TVzor looks to establish itself in the Russian market at first, but may move to expand globally after that. Trellas is reportedly committed to follow-on investment which will fuel Vidmind’s plans for international expansion.
The box sold by Vidmind allows virtual-TV operators to launch a pay-TV service, including offering premium video-on-demand (VOD), live TV, live IP channels, and more. The devices are designed to allow users to access content from any platform, be it a television, smartphone, or tablet.
The Trellas Group operates more than 3,200 stores across Russia and intends to make TVzor available online or through Svyaznoy stores and, eventually bring it to other retailers. They are ultimately aiming to reach 100K subscribers within the next year.
