Berlin-based freelancer-marketplace Twago has obtained an undisclosed amount of funding from Randstad Innovation Fund. Randstad Innovation Fund is the investment wing of Dutch staffing and recruiting giant Randstad Holding.
Per the press-release with the news, these are the first two of a number of investments that RIF intends to make over the next few years. Areas of particular interest for possible investment include social-sourcing, online-platforms, mobile-solutions, virtual-solutions, gamification, and big-game data.
Since it launched in 2009, Twago reports having spurred the creation of more than 51K projects totalling more than 250 million Euro. They initially obtained $141K in seed funding from the co-founders back in 2009, but later ran into trouble and declared bankruptcy in 2012. They quickly bounced back, raising $3 million through a Series A from Euroserve Media and GMPVC that same year.
The service allows customers to farm-out tasks like web-development, online-marketing, mobile-app-development, and data-entry projects to a global team of professionals. More than 190 countries are represented by more than 255K contractors through the platform.
