It is safe to say that there is no shortage of dating apps, helping people of all types find an ideal mate. But what about those who are already dating? French startup Happy Couple, which launched in November and already claims 45,000 users, looks to target that crowd with apps designed to provide couples a gamified platform for building their relationship.
The concept behind this service is that couples can choose from 6 different topics daily, receiving 5 questions (each) to answer. There is also a daily tip, offering users personalized activities and challenges that can be worked through, either together or individually. And, as it is a game, the platform offers the ability to unlock new levels, in order to keep things fresh.
Happy Couple’s apps, available for Android, iOS, and Windows (in addition to an online version), are free for the moment, but co-founder Julien Robert tells me that they are planning to implement a freemium monetization plan, starting in Q2 of this year, with the idea being that they will offer more questions or additional content to those willing to pay up.
On Android, the app currently boasts a score of 3.8 stars (out of 5) from 302 ratings. The iOS version, for its part, claims a rating of 4 stars (out of 5) from 22 reviewers.
Happy Couple claims backing to the tune of 105K Euro from a group that includes their advisors, contractors, and Vertical, an acceleration program in which they participated last autumn. They are also currently working on another round.
The startup tells me that their users, who hail from more than 120 countries and 50% of whom play at least 5 days a week, are currently mainly located in France and the United States, but they are looking at translating the apps, in order to reach new communities.
