Just over a year ago, we did a profile on the German startup behind COBI, a startup dedicated to building a smartphone dashboard. At the time, we mentioned their Kickstarter campaign, which hauled in more than $400,000 (well past the goal of $100,000) from more than 1,800 backers. The startup then followed that up in April 2015 by taking in more than $4 million from a group that includes Capnamic Ventures, Iris Capital, and Creathor Venture. Now, we learn that they have obtained still more funding, taking in another 6.3 million Euro, this time from Munich Venture Partners, in addition to Capnamic and Creathor, which they intend to put towards international expansion and development of new products. All told, the company reports that they have now raised about 12 million Euro and have already expanded to include 50 employees, spread between offices in Frankfurt, Hamburg, and San Francisco.
According to the latest release, the system, which can be ordered online for between 179 and 330, includes a smartphone holder (with charging function), a bell, alarm system, and bike computer. While the Kickstarter campaign concluded back in December 2014, they just now declare that they are preparing to complete the more than 30,000 pre-orders that they have received, just in time for the spring biking season.
