Job opportunities for those working in the tech world may be pretty plentiful, but this does not necessarily mean that these positions are ultimately filled. Portuguese startup JOBBOX, which launched a year ago, believes that they have a solution that will encourage potential applicants to put their name is the mix for these positions, offering rewards ranging from a minimum of 250 Euro to north of 2,500 to those who refer their connections for a particular position, assuming that connection stays at the job for a minimum of one month.
Finding potential openings is pretty easy, as you have to simply click to open up a listing of positions, including the location of the job and an indication of whether or not the employer is willing to pay you to relocate, or it is possible to work remotely, or whether there is visa support. Also included is the price that JOBBOX is willing to pay out for each successful referral. The listings do not stay open forever, however, as each includes an expiration date. But maintaining quality in the application in the process is key, which is why JOBBOX only allows verified job openings directly from the company, as opposed to third-party recruiting services, and requires that candidates pick up a referral before they even apply. On the business side, one of the more appealing aspects of the service is that they are able to post vacancies and use the platform for free, only paying JOBBOX when they move to hire one of the candidates.
JOBBOX announced last week they have raised 750,000 Euro in a seed round, which they intend to use to open an office in London, boost their marketing efforts, continue development of their platform (including an algorithm that sorts referrals by quality), and expand their staff, a group that currently numbers 15. The funding comes from Portugal Ventures and Best Horizon, the investment arm of the beta-i association.
