There may be a number of options out there for the latest news on your favorite team, but a new player, British service 850 Sports News Digest believes that there is room for still one more and has entered the game with a platform that targets fans want all the information on their favorite team, but do not have the time or patience to go looking for it. Fueling the development of this platform will be $500,000 in seed funding that they have just obtained from iBus Media Group.
The free app, which has just launched for iOS and Android, is aiming to appeal to sports fans with a customizable 10-minute digest produced by their team of writers. It is unclear as to how many users have begun using the app, but it has been downloaded at least 1,000 times for Android.
The service has an, understandably, British focus at the moment, providing updates for football, cricket, rugby, golf, tennis, motorsport, darts, and snooker, but the startup declares that they have limitless ambitions, planning to eventually add as many sports and languages as possible. In the near future, they intend to add updates for baseball, American football, basketball, ice hockey, cycling, sailing, netball, field hockey, and more.
Going forward, the team behind 850 intends to make the service more interactive, potentially allowing users to add their own commentary or make predictions on matches.
