Popular, and pretty fast growing, inter-city ride sharing site BlaBlaCar announced its launch in India. The Paris-based company who has recently launched in Turkey following the closure of a $100 million to fund its international growth in July 2014, today released its free Android and iPhone apps as well for download in India.
The company will open its country office in New Delhi, which will be its ninth across the globe. BlaBlaCar active across 14 countries today: Benelux, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Spain, Turkey, Ukraine and the United Kingdom.
The company said India has huge potential for ride sharing thanks to its young population, high Facebook penetration and relatively longer distances between its major cities. It also shares the information in a press release that the company has more than 2 million people already traveling together with BlaBlaCar every month.
Nicolas Brusson, co-founder and COO of BlaBlaCar, said, “India poses a unique opportunity for city-to-city ridesharing, as drivers are already keen to cut the cost of long journeys and share their expenses, while passengers lack comfortable ways to travel large distances at the last minute. BlaBlaCar could generate a much deeper transformation of city-to-city travel than what we’ve seen in European markets so far”.
