Finnish startup Unmonday, developer of a wireless speaker system, has announced that they have picked up 1.5 million euros in new funding from an undisclosed foreign investor. Details regarding this latest funding haul are scarce, but the company would say that they intend to use the money to continue to develop their international presence.
The startup also says that the new funding will support a new product-development cycle, but that news regarding new products will have to wait until spring 2015.
Unmonday’s latest device, the model 4.3 wireless airplay speaker, retails for a hefty 594 Euro, but the company believes that this is a premium product worthy of a premium price. It is interesting to note that, back in 2012, the company ran a Kickstarter campaign, aiming to pull in $200K for this particular speaker. That campaign was unsuccessful, reaching only $68K (not received, as the campaign failed), but they have clearly moved on and managed to find willing investors elsewhere.
In addition to the wireless speaker (available in an EU or UK version, depending on the user’s power requirements), the company sells accessories like speaker pads, cases, and grills in various colors.
