European e-book reading service Bookmate partners with StarHub to launch in Singapore

bookmateRussian-born subscription based e-book streaming service Bookmate is expanding to Asia via a new and exclusive partnership with StarHub of Singapore.

The comprehensive library of over 500K ebooks from 600 publishers will now be available to Singapore where English is one of four official languages (others are Malay, Mandarin and Tamil). As part of the deal, local publishers are also encouraged to submit their books on the platform via StarHub’s integrated info-communications system and network.

Bookmate, who has offices in Moscow and London, boasts publications in 9 languages that include English, Russian, Spanish, Turkish and Swedish. StarHub will also serve as Singapore offices of the Russian startup. It partners with major publishers like HarperCollins, Head of Zeus, Profile Books, Serpent’s Tail.

Bookmate currently claims over 1.5 million active monthly users in countries including Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, U.S. and Germany.
