For years, we have waited for someone to simplify our lives by making a button that will control many tasks with just one tap a reality. Well, the wait appears to be shortened as the Finnish-developed Bttn aims to be that button. We have seen Internet-of-Things devices which will allow users to control their entire home from their smartphone, but these guys are taking a bit of a different approach. Users of this device have the option of selecting from among a number of pre-set functions or they can decide to create their own.
The button from Bttn is a programmable device which connects to the internet (possible to connect over WiFi or 3G) and allows users to create actions for it. One of the coolest aspects about is that it can be setup to perform a wide range of functions, from sending a specific message to someone, to turning on the coffee pot, to controlling the lights, and more. Most people might think of a “big red button” as the all-purpose device you would use to run your life with ease, but this particular unit will be sold in red, as well as blue, green, and yellow.
The team behind Bttn set a modest goal, $50K, for the Indiegogo campaign to fund their project and opted for flexible funding so that they would obtain something in the event that they failed to reach their target. But, with $55K from 292 backers, they topped their goal and will receive slightly more than they initially sought.
Speaking of backers, the cheapest unit available to those who participated in the crowdfunding campaign went for $99, so customers should not have to break the bank in order to pick one up.
Having completed their campaign, the next step is to head into production and push the product out to early backers. Those who backed the campaign should not have to wait long to receive the device, as the startup says that the first units are due to be delivered in December.
