ZenMate, a software startup that provides privacy and security solutions for online community has announced its Series-A funding round of $3.2 million. The round is led by German internet investors Holtzbrinck Ventures (Zalando, Wooga, Delivery Hero, Paymill, Hitfox Group). Holtzbrinck is joined by current investor Project A Ventures, and new investors Shortcut Ventures and T-Venture.
The Berlin-based company also announced today that its registered users have grown to more than 5 million in 180 countries in just over a year. Founder and CEO Simon Specka says: “Over the past 18 months we have focused on making ZenMate the best of its kind, and watched it grow to be a product that millions around the world have come to trust. With our new investment we hope to scale and grow our product family, to become the number-one privacy solution of its kind.”
Launched in mid-2013, ZenMate offers to end users secure, encrypted access to websites viaVirtual Private Network (VPN)-style connection. Started out with a browser extension for Google Chrome, ZenMate quickly added versions for iOS and Android in August 2014. Today it also announced a new suite for Firefox browsers, the first to the market.
ZenMate won The Europas Award for Best Security/Privacy Startup of 2014.
