It is often difficult to have your particular Tumblr page stand out. For some, it can be useful to receive recommendations on the best content to post, if you are looking to pick up followers. Hungarian-founded startup Brickflow has set its sights on helping these Tumblr users with an algorithm that offering recommendations for the best GIFs and images for a particular user, based on their profile.
Brickflow is not new, having first launched last August, but the company has shifted its focus over the past year and has now established itself as a content-discovery platform. It started out a visual-storytelling tool, like Storify, but the team at the Budapest-based company decided that that was not a direction that they wanted to pursue and have since altered their focus. CEO Peter Langmar tells me that the company is currently developing an app for iOS and looking with more services than Tumblr, such as Pinterest or WeHeartIt.
Langmar tells me that the service free for now, but they are testing a premium plan and promoted content options. Right now, though, he says that they are focused on simply building the userbase.
Although Brickflow was created by Hungarian founders, their investors certainly bear an international flair. Langmar tells me that the company picked up its first funding from the Startup Wise Guys accelerator in Estonia (undisclosed amount) and then took home a grant for $40K from the Startup Chile program. Most recently, the company obtained 240K Euro from Hungarian accelerator iCatapult and 4 angel investors from the UK, Estonia, Germany, and Hungary.
