Google Ventures will soon open a London office to run future European operations of the venture capital arm of the search giant. While some sources say the prominent angel investor Peter Read will be leading the founding team, Mike Butcher of TechCrunch puts Eze Vidra, the former head of Campus London and present head of Google for Entrepreneurs Europe, on the top of the list.
According to the rumours Butcher conveys, the volume of Google Ventures Europe will be between $100-200 million, that is, almost half size of its $300 million US fund. As expected, the money will be deployed gradually over several years. The figure is quite understandable as the European tech investment scene is less vibrant than that in the US.
Milo Yiannopoulos of Breitbart claims that the founding partners team of GV Europe will also include investor Tom Hulme and former UK government policy advisor Rohan Silva in addition to those cited above. He says Read has already agreed to take the post but the contract is still to be signed.
Various resources say the launch will be scheduled for some time in late Q3.
