Arabreneur, an initiative to encourage entrepreneurship in the Arab world, has announced that three Palestinian teams will receive $300,000 in funding as a result of successful pitches at an event in April in Jerusalem.
SooShef, a site that helps users to make recipes based on ingredients they have nearby, JobReneur, a cloud-based service that offers MENA users a skills-matching platform, and Imagry, a mobile image-recognition platform, are the big winners among the 10 startups that pitched at the event last month.
According to the press-release from Arabreneur, these 3 startups were selected based on their readiness to improve and expand their business into new markets. They are currently showcasing their services at ArabNet Digital Summit 2014 in Dubai.
Arabreneur holds quarterly pitch events to identify some of the most-promising startups in the Arab world and reports that the last event (prior to the one in April) raised a collective $440K in seed investment.
The winners from that event were online sex-shop and blog Karaz (who we recently covered), social education platform LiveTop, online fantasy-based football game Fariqak, and AIdbits, a platform that allows non-profit organizations to monitor beneficiaries and activities.
The next pitch session is scheduled for September 2014 and will be held jointly with Seedstars World and StartupBootcamp. In addition to these pitch events, Arabreneur operates a venture fund, accelerator, angel network, mentor network, and soft-landing service.
