Salesforce CEO Benioff joins the backers of MovieLaLa

movielala_benioff2MovieLaLa, the movie marketing platform that has recently signed Machinima CEO Allen DeBevoise and ex-Warner Bros. Online president Jim Moloshok as investors, adds another high-profile tech executive today among its backers: Marc Benioff, the Chairman and CEO of Salesforce.com.

The amount of money Benioff put has not been disclosed. But the company said, with Benioff’s investment, MovieLaLa’s  seed funding and angel investments has reached $750,000 right before the official launch scheduled for next month.

Benioff is a top influencer in tech industry, a best-selling author, and the founder of a company – salesforce.com – that is considered as one of the top innovators today. His backing of MovieLaLa will contribute a lot to the popularity of movie social network, particularly among the marketing circles in the film industry. The company said the seed funding that the company has raised up till now is used in building an online system that aim to replace the traditional movie marketing model by a data-driven marketing platform for studios.

Benioff said “Movie studios are spending hundreds of millions of dollars to market movies without the analytics and data to know where to target that marketing and to know it’s working,” said Benioff. “MovieLaLa brings those studios the data they need to make informed decisions. I believe there’re a lot of opportunities in CRM [customer relations management] tools that studios can benefit from.”

Founded in late 2012 by Şahin Boydaş of Turkey and Dana Loberg in San Francisco, US, MovieLala aims to offer movie fans a unique social platform. It is also designed as an effective marketing tool with which studios can reach their audience more directly and create an additional buzz for their upcoming releases.
