The Europas season is on!

europas-startup-webrazziStartup competition season is on. And we expect it to be pretty hot this year, especially in Europe. With the aftermath of global crisis finally fading and the recent flurry of funding and IPO news, we are encouraged to believe there will be even better ideas that emerge this time around.

Mike Butcher’s The Europas Tech Startup Awards will definitely be one of the foremost platforms where you can enjoy the season and bet on your favourite stars of the near future. The nominations for the awards, which boasts an even more outstanding gang of jury members this year, were opened as of yesterday.

What makes the Europas great, among other things, is the lack of the usual restrictions for entering. Almost all companies and products are eligible to enter based on their achievement between January 2013 (the last awards) and Summer 2014. There are no restrictions on the number of nominations for a company either. So it is a rare opportunity to see who’s doing what and of course, what they are not doing, which can be just as interesting.

Founded by Mike Butcher in 2009, The Europas has already established itself as a central awards event for early-stage startups in Europe. While it focuses more on the newest startups, the networking feature of the event also attracts mid and late stage tech companies, as well as leading investors and media in the EMEA region.

In official terms, “the Awards celebrates the most forward thinking, progressive and innovative tech companies across over some 20+ categories”. A panel of judges, which includes Arda Kutsal, the founder and CEO of Webrazzi, will initially shortlist the startups who applied or were nominated. The winners are announced following a public peer vote and the final ruling of the judges.

This year it will consist of a daytime event, The Gathering, an evening awards ceremony and, of course, a fun party, a VIP dinner and another fun party. It’s London after all, right? 🙂
