Axel Springer Plug&Play kicks off third accelerator program in March

axel-springer-plugandplay-webrazziBerlin-based digital media startup accelerator Axel Springer Plug&Play will kick off its third program in March 2014. The Accelerator is currently receiving applications from all over the world for the juicy package that includes €25,000 seed financing, office space in Berlin and most valuable mentorship by the big shots in the ecosystem. The application process will run until the 14th of February.

Axel Springer, a giant media conglomerate located in Berlin, is partnered 50-50 with Sunnyvale-based Plug&Play, a well-established accelerator, investor and tech community with a network consisting of more than 300 startups and 180 investors. Launched in 2013, Axel Springer Plug & Play Accelerator aims to build a bridge between Silicon Valley and rapidly developing European startup ecosystem and recruits trail-blazing digital entrepreneurs and provide them with global opportunities from day one through our international network in Europe and Silicon Valley.

The program is run twice a year, covering a three month-long schedule in which selected startups are supplied with office space in the heart of Berlin, coaching, workshops, networking, €25,000, events and more. The program ends with the Demo Day, where startups get the opportunity to pitch in front of an elite audience of local and international venture capital firms for additional seed and Series A funding. Silicon Valley investors are very well represented in these pitch stage.

There are no restrictions on where the contestants are coming from. If they can stay in Berlin for 3 months, then they are eligible to run for a place among 8 lucky startups. Review of 2013 and the 2nd Demo Day Axel Springer Plug & Play counts now 15 great companies in their portfolio. It’s quite an achievement in European accelerator/incubator scene which is often dominated by the likes of international Seedcamp and Startupbootcamp and Germany-based Rocket Internet.

ASPP’s Demo Days are particularly busy. For the second Demo Day staged on January 17th, around 120 investors travelled to Berlin to see the pitches of the accelerator’s seven latest startups: 1o1Media, blogfoster, embraase, get2play, Jobspotting, Socius and StyleUp!
