Qatar-based global news network Al Jazeera is launching mobile digital channels in Turkish very soon, the company has announced today. The website, mobile apps and an e-mag will be online by 22nd of January. Company claims ‘Al Jazeera Türk is expected to give a breath of fresh air to media in Turkey’.
Doha-headquartered company had initially been planning the digital launch of digital Turkish editions simultaneously with its TV channel which is expected to start off in about a year’s time. Company later decided not to wait for the channel whose works are still underway at a central location in Istanbul.
Al Jazeera Turk, the latest member to join the Al Jazeera Network which already has three channels broadcasting in Arabic, English and Balkan languages, will be dedicated to Turkish-speaking audiences in different parts of the world says Al Jazeera Turk Managing Director, İsmail Kızılbay. According to the press release, the target population will amount to 130-140 million people in Europe, Balkans, Caucasus and the Middle East.
Can Tuzuner, the Head of Online at Al Jazeera Turk, said the news center they have established for digital platforms will cater also to other channels within the network, including upcoming Al Jazeera Turk TV.
