Markafoni, one of the first private shopping services in Turkey, has shared some data regarding the first six months of this year, following the big investment it got. Markafoni has grown by 300 percent in the first six months of 2011 and the number of its monthly visitors has reached 12 million.
Markafoni offers textile, shoes, bags, accessories; cosmetics and child products mostly on its website, and the data it has shared are of considerable importance, regarding the size of its target audience. The service has 3.5 million members, which makes half of the Turkish etrading users that are estimated to be 5-6 million. 70 percent of its members are female, while 30 percent are male. 60 percent of Markafoni members age between 25-35 and 60 percent of its members live in Istanbul, Ankara and Izmir.
The İstanbul-based company also gives information on its promotions and offers, while the number of its promotions reaches 500 each month. 1 percent of its visitors visit the website using its mobile pages, and there is an average of 50 orders placed a day through Markafoni’s mobile pages. Markafoni’s application on Ovi Store is used by 10 thousand people, and Markafoni also has applications for iPhone and Android.
Detailed statistics of visitors reveal that one visitor spends an average of 8 minutes on Markafoni’s website per each visit and browses two products each day and five each month on average. As a result of these visits, one item is sold every 10 minutes on Markafoni. A total of 200,000 product pages have been viewed for 17,500,000 times in the last six months.
Markafoni has also shared data on search engine statistics, which show that the word ‘markafoni’ is searched about 2 million times a month and 22 million times a year on Google.
The number of fans Markafoni has got on Facebook is 380 thousand. Markafoni Blog, which went online in May 2010, attracts 20 thousand visitors each month. There are more than 1000 posts on the blog with content focusing on fashion.
Markafoni Founder and CEO Sina Afra, who is also one of the Webrazzi Summit speakers, says that this growth will be a permanent one and that the company is planning to make investments both nationally and internationally. While the company has started voucher sales with Markafoni City, and has focused on child products as a 3rd category, I believe it is a nice example of how a start-up in its own operating field should grow and mature.
